What The....

So I'm rushing this 2500 word paper for Caribbean Sociology Class, you know that paper i just had to be delinquent about. Far be it from the mental masturbation of procrastination, or the late night tiredness that kicks in as the culprit for loopy ideas to write in an academic essay. The aha! moment came when i thought if I can quote books, other academic papers, websites and newspapers... why not films?
Come on! Its not a new idea. Many academics study film as a text- a medium of cultural artifacts that constructs social myths and "realities" that inform our immediate environment. Enough with the academic BS already. Most moviegoers are not really interested in that type of analysis. The primary reason for going to a film is to be entertained. The feature length of the portion of our leisure time does not afford us the liberty to think beyond the silver screen magic.
Why does the "black" tranformer, Jazz, is the only autobot that dies in Transformers? Bombart, why are black people generally killed off first? When will I actually see a non eurocentric science fiction? Star Wars, Star Trek and Twilight Zone were great but man i need to see black peoples problems in futuristic setting from a third world perspective! Is there really no money to be made by investing in films like these?
Whatever. This is just my own little perspective. It seems that without some professor urging you to become more than a passive viewer in the cinema or loving film so much you official become labelled a film geek, you would sit quite nonchalantly consuming whatever HollyWood dishes at you with out discerning the gold from the garbage.
